Immersed, a horror romance novel, is what would happen if you took the video game Until Dawn and made it romance between a killer and his prey.

Levi isn’t big into horror games but decides to play a new virtual reality horror game in honor of his brother for a charity stream. Shortly after entering the game, he finds the nightmare has come to life and he can’t exit the game. There’s a killer after him and his NPC friends at a campsite, and he dies repeatedly at the hands of Asher, who makes death seem romantic as he watches him die and comforts him in his last moments.

Levi eventually has to work with a repeated murderer to try to complete the game as he wants nothing more than to go home, but the closer he gets to Asher, the more Asher claims him and doesn’t want him to leave.

Gale Ian Tate created a unique story that stands out from anything in its genre. It is dark, romantic, a little bit spicy, and a whole lot of fun. Asher is a fun mystery whose motives are questionable the entire time, but you can’t help but love him. Levi comes off as shy and weak, but he’s a strong character.

With the release of the second book, which completes their story, diving into this book is an immediate need.
