Sweet Obsession
Sweet Obsession by Riley Hart
Riley Hart’s Sins Of The Father series has quickly become a must-read, top-tier, darker romance series. Each book follows a new lead who attends college and is part of a mafia family. The series follows themes of revenge, obsession, and lust, and the newest addition, Sweet Obsession, is no different.
We meet Rory in the first book, as Rory, Cillian, and Tiernan are close friends who grew up together and attend the same college. Tiernan’s dad is the head of the mafia, while Rory and Cillian met as kids because of their families, who work for the same mafia. They’ve been inseparable since they first met, and Cillian even shares his partner, Ollie, with Rory, but they’re not all together. Instead, Rory is now focused on finding a man of his own, and sharing the same bliss he sees in Ollie’s eyes when he watches them together.
Rory goes to a hotel to meet a hookup, but instead gets robbed by Shai, who needs money for rent. Fascinated and turned on, he decides not to shoot him. He finds out who he is later and offers him a deal: fuck me to pay me back, or die. Shai agrees, and they get down to business immediately.
Their relationship dynamic is full of sex and lust, initially filled with reluctance until they, pretty quickly, develop a mutual, probably unhealthy obsession with each other. They are the definition of “touch him and die” in the best way. While their connection is rooted in sex and obsession, the story doesn’t sacrifice genuine chemistry and love, giving us a believable couple that not every book involving similar themes can deliver.
