Cold Performs Two Albums at The Basement East
At the beginning of the year, Cold announced a tour celebrating two albums, 13 Ways To Bleed On Stage and A Different Kind Of Pain with University Drive, September Mourning, and Thrower. The tour stopped in Nashville, TN on April 6th.
Thrower shocked fans throughout the room when they took the stage, leaving a lasting impression with their unique sound. Isaac T, their vocalist, has such a distinct voice that perfectly emulates early 2000s music, making them a great match for the tour. Audience members commented on how impressive they were once their performance ended.
University Drive took the stage next with a performance full of energy, their music a perfect blend of early-200s rock and modern indie rock. They put on a fun performance despite several members having to perform double duty each night of tour, which is impressive itself.
September Mourning gave one of my favorite performances of the year so far. Fans started making their way to the front before the band took the stage. I knew I was in for a treat when everyone crowded the stage, and they didn’t disappoint. Not only were they fun to watch, but their music is unique and sets them apart in their genre. Vocalist Emily Lazar has incredible stage presence, and a beautiful voice suited for alternative rock.
Cold made their entrance to a room full of excited fans, many of whom had been listening to the band for over twenty years and were excited to see songs they loved performed live again. While Cold has been touring, it was a unique experience to be able to see them perform two beloved albums in their entirety. We got to hear stories in between songs that related to how they came about, getting a huge insight into vocalist Scooter’s life and what inspired him to write such powerful music that many resonated with. Cold has the power to command the entire room during their performance, the audience all in tune and living in the moment—something beautiful and rare these days.
One fan described the concert as “a transcendent experience, where I shed loss and found hope.”
Despite performing these songs decades later, Scooter Ward is as talented and passionate as ever, and his voice hasn’t changed over time. Their songs are just as deep, passionate, and fantastic as they were when they were originally written and performed, making the experience even better.
