Class is in Session: The Summer School Tour Takes Over Marathon Music Works

The Summer School Tour kicked off its second year in July, making a stop in Nashville on August 1st. This year’s impressive lineup included Charlotte Sands, Taylor Acorn, Rain City Drive, If Not For Me, Beauty School Dropout, Arrows In Action, and Huddy.

The first thing that made the tour stand out above the rest was the way Peta was outside campaigning against Sea World—an action reminiscent of Warped Tour. The lineup included incredible pop-punk powerhouses that fit blended together well for the perfect summer tour. While If Not For Me is a bit of a heavier band, leaning more toward metalcore, they still fit well with the lineup. Each band had the same visual screens on the sides of the stage showcasing images from the band, and at times, lyrics to their songs, something super unique and fun that I hope to see more of in the future. Something unique about the venue itself is its giant hanging projecting screens, which they used to play music videos between sets.

Each band brought an incredible amount of energy, from opening act, Huddy, to closing act, Charlotte Sands. Taylor Acorn performed Uncomfortably Numb with Arrows In Action while also sporting their matching jumpsuits, and Charlotte Sands joined her for their song Final Nail. It isn’t often enough that bands with songs together get to tour together and perform them for crowds, making the Summer School Tour extra special.

The Summer School Tour was able to fit seven bands in the perfect amount of time, without sacrificing the experience. Each band played a remarkable set with songs that got the crowd going, and no set felt too short or too long. The crowd stayed full throughout the entire night, people not willing to give up their spots, which was a fresh sight to behold. The bands made sure to include some of their biggest hits, including Huddy’s All The Things I Hate About You, Rain City Drive’s Medicate Me, Charlotte SandsTantrum, and If Not For Me’s Feel Me Now. My favorite performance of the night is tied between Rain City Drive and If Not For Me, but every band put their heart into their performances and wowed everyone in the crowd. Beauty School Dropout put on one of the most energetic performances of the night, and their aesthetics are fun and vintage, making them a great band to watch.

The tour has the potential to be the yearly summer tour, and will hopefully only continue to grow and fill larger venues.
