Drop

Drop

Drop’s premise excited me from the moment I saw the first trailer. A girl on a first date being told to kill her date? Sign me up. The movie, while it has mixed reviews, did not disappoint me.

Violet is a therapist who decides to try dating again after the death of her abusive husband. She has her sister babysit while she meets someone from a dating app at a classy restaurant. She meets a few people around the bar before he shows, introducing us to a few suspects. One her date arrives, someone starts AirDropping her, threatening her child if she doesn’t kill her date. When she opens her cameras, a stranger is in her home.

Drop does a successful job of making us suspicious of several restaurant patrons, while keeping the trail off the real culprit. Henry is a photographer for the mayor and seems like a good guy, making us wonder why someone wants him dead. But, of course, he works for the mayor, so he definitely knows something he shouldn’t. While I wish they focused more on the culprit and the storyline between the mayor and Henry, overall it was a fun thriller with a unique plot that kept my attention The biggest downfall was the satisfying, yet highly unrealistic ending.
